Basidiome: adherent, thin
Hymenophore: smooth to granular, gray to
hazelnut-brown
Margin: same color as the hymenophore,
inconspicuous
Rhizomorphs: absent
Subiculum: same color as the hymenophore,
often absent
Subicular hyphae: hyaline to brownish, with clamps, thin-walled, not encrusted, 3.5–6 µm
wide
Subhymenial hyphae: hyaline, rarely brownish, partly swollen and
short-celled, with clamps, thin-walled, not encrusted, 4–7 µm wide
Cystidia: hyaline, clavate to slightly
capitate, 80–140 µm long, 5 µm wide at the base, up to 10 µm wide at the apex
Basidia: hyaline, with basal clamps
Spores: brownish, round to broadly elliptical from frontal and lateral
views, 6.5–8 µm, spines up to 1 µm long
Distribution: Found worldwide in temperate regions. In Germany, it is considered a
rare species.
Note: The very similar Thelephora clavigera differs only by having more irregular and
slightly larger spores.
