Basidiome: adherent, felty to mold-like
Hymenophore: granular to warty, dark brownish
Margin: same color as or lighter than the hymenophore
Rhizomorphs: absent
Subiculum: same color as or lighter than the hymenophore

Subicular hyphae: hyaline, with clamps, thin- to slightly thick-walled, not encrusted, 2.5-4 µm wide
Subhymenial hyphae: hyaline, with clamps, thin-walled, not encrusted, 2-4 µm wide
Cystidia: absent
Basidia: hyaline, with basal clamp
Spores: brownish, triangular in frontal view, partially lobed, irregularly rounded to elliptical in lateral view, 6-8 µm, spines up to 1,5 µm long
Chemical reaction: Hymenium strong cyanescent with KOH

Distribution: considered a rare species in Germany
Note: The very similar Thelephora eucoerulea ss. M.J. Larsen has a lighter hymenophore and is not cyanescent.
