Basidiome: adherent to detachable, felty
Hymenophore: granular, light to dark brownish
Margin: the same color as or lighter than the
hymenophore
Rhizomorphs: absent
Subiculum: the same color as or lighter than
the hymenophore, partially very thin or absent
Subicular Hyphae: hyaline, with clamp connections, thin-walled, not incrusted, 2.5-4 µm
wide
Subhymenial Hyphae: hyaline, with clamp connections, thin-walled, not
incrusted, 2-4 µm wide
Cystidia: absent
Basidia: hyaline, in H2O partially with reddish crystals in the plasma, with basal clamp
Spores: brownish, frontally triangular, sometimes lobed, laterally
irregularly rounded to elliptical, 6-8.5 µm, spines up to 1 µm long
Distribution: worldwide in temperate to subtropical regions; one of the common
species in Germany
Note: The similar Thelephora eulateritia has a conspicuously brick-red hymenophore,
while the very similar Thelephora molybdaea has a dark brown hymenophore and is cyanescens.
