Margin: same color as or darker than the hymenophore, inconspicuous
Rhizomorphs: absent
Subiculum: darker than the hymenophore, brown

Subicular hyphae: brownish, with clamps, thick-walled, partially encrusted, 4-7 µm wide
Subhymenial hyphae: yellowish, with clamps, thin-walled, not encrusted, 4-6 µm wide

Distribution: considered a common species in Germany
Note: The typical form of the species is well recognized by its long-spined, round spores and rust-colored hymenophore. The complex includes records with an olive-colored hymenophore =Thelephora viridescens and records with similarly rust-colored hymenophore and short-spined, smaller spores =Thelephora ferruginella. However, these two species lack an amyloid apiculus.
